Tisa had many ideas of what she wanted to be when she grew up. She was always thinking of
something unusual. “I have decided that I want to be a bus driver,” she told her
grandmother one day. Granny smiled, but she did not laugh. “I have never seen a woman
driving a bus, my dear,” she said. “But I have heard about it on the radio. Women sometimes
drive buses in cities.”

When Tisa told her mother about her idea, her mother laughed. “Oh Tisa, what funny
dreams you have in your head!” but this did not stop Tisa dreaming. Could she be a bus
driver one day?

Tisa had always enjoyed being on buses since she was quite young. Her father was a bus
driver. She liked to sit next to him on the bus. She watched him carefully to see how he
drove the bus and operated the pedals. When Tisa told him about her plan, her father
sighed. “Tisa, I am a bus driver. Your brother can be a bus driver when he grows up. But not
you! Do you forget you are a girl? “

… But her father’s remarks did not make her abandon her project. She was just going to do
the things she enjoyed doing. She liked to make toy cars for herself and her brother. This
time, she would become what she wanted to be: a bus driver.

Text : The story of St Valentine

Do you know why we celebrate St Valentine’s Day ? Nowadays it is the opportunity to tell people how much you care about them, to give and receive presents. But according to one legend, St Valentine’s Day is meant for people to remember a brave martyr whose name was Valentine.

Roman emperor Claudius II was fighting many wars. He wanted a strong army, but many men did not want to be soldiers. Claudius thought the men wanted to stay with their wives and children instead of leaving to fight wars.

Claudius thought of an awful solution to his problem. He decided to cancel all marriages ! No one in all of Rome could get married. Claudius thought that if men couldn’t get married, they would ignore women and want to be soldiers.

Valentine, who was a priest, believed that people needed to get married. He thought that if people were not married, they would be tempted to sin by living together without being married. So he secretly and illegally married couples anyway ! He performed the weddings in secret places, so Roman soldiers would not find out.

But they did find out. Valentine was arrested and brought before the emperor. The emperor thought Valentine was a well spoken and wise man, and he encouraged him to stop being a Christian and become a loyal Roman. Valentine would not deny his beliefs, and he refused. He was sent to prison until he could be executed. While in prison, he sent out letters to his friends and asked them to pray for him by writing Remember your Valentine.

Valentine was killed on the 14th or 24th of February in year 269 or 270. We celebrate St Valentine’s Day on February 14th in honour of St Valentine.

I 'm very worried about the effects of television,especially on our children. First, there are a lot of violent programs on TV and on several occasions I have caught my sons copying the actions they see in these programs. Second, the advertising is very bad for them. Children see commmercials for sweets and toys, for example, and always want to go out and buy them. Also, sitting in front of the television set all day is bad for their eyes. All my children wear glasses and I am convinced it is because of the long hours they spend in front of the screen. Finally, watching TV is not creative. 1. At the age of 25, Aboubacar Bailo Diallo had plans to leave his home town of Bolliwel to look for work in the Guinean capital of Conakry. Like many other young Guineans, who were forced to drop out of school due to a lack of money, rural exodus was the only hope for escaping the poverty in which he grew up.
2. Aboubacar's father convinced him to join a trainig program in chicken-raising, funded by a non-governmental organisation , as an alternative to leaving home. Two years later, Aboubacar says that is the best decision he has ever made, and that he no longer has any intention of leaving his hometown and his family in search of a better life. With his new knowledge of chicken-raising and the installation of his first chicken coop, he was able to create this better life at home. Beginning with 300 chicks, he now has 450 egg-laying hens.
3. Aboubacar is able to contribute greatly to the family's expenses, particularly by paying for medical fees. The income from the chicken farm also pays for the schooling of nine children in his family. Not only is there enough food in Aboubacar's family, but also the babies are well-fed and the children rarely become sick. Now eggs are consumed on a daily basis by each family in the community, whereas just two years ago, eggs were hardly eaten at all. The eggs are even being sold in the nearby villages and shipped to the principal regional centers.
